Finally! After months of hard work, Dharivall can get rid of that awful stupid old ref. sheet of his!
I must say, I'm really, really happy with this new one. For about the last 6 months I've been working on my dragon species, the khaleasmern, and therefore also developing a better, brand new design for Dharivall. I'd say that 95% of his design has been modified. I did my best to write down the basic info on this sheet, but I still feel the need of explaining a few very important details about his new form and also some info regarding his species so you can understand the design better. I haven't just thrown a new design on him, everything on Dharivall was planned and has an explanation for being there.
First of all, there's an eye illustrated on the sheet called "Aurasight" that wasn't explained. Well, Aurasight is a power Dharivall has(I plan on drawing another sheet for his powers and curse markings later), it makes him able to see people's auras and, when this ability is used, the sclera of his eyes becomes pitch black while the rims of his irises glow a bright blue. The rest of the irises, though, reflects a starry night sky/universe. That's the only power that fully changes his eyes, since when he uses any other power of his, the only change that happens is that the symbol of his curse appears in his pupils and glows to the point of engulfing the whole eye in blue light.
Ah, and another important detail: Dharivall is still a mammalian.Oh, Lilian, but this is impossible! Dragons cannot be mammalians!
That's the point. Dharivall is not
a dragon. Khaleasmerns are actually just a mammalian species that, in their evolution, developed dragon-like features. In my imaginary world, they even belong to an order called Nondraconis, an order that gathers all the mammalians that resemble dragons. This is basically the same thing that happens to the hyenas... most people nowadays think that hyenas are canines when this is not true at all. Hyenas have their own family and are actually more related to the felines and only developed canine features as adaptation to the envyronment.
In my world, calling a khaleasmern "dragon" is more like a popular expression due to their apperance. So I don't mind calling Dharivall that.
Another thing that people have inquired about to me a lot as I worked on his design are his secondary wings. I must admit, the old design for them made no sense, but I still loved the fact Dharivall had four wings and wanted to keep that characteristic on his new version and make it be realistic and logical. Now their new shape is a lot better and does make sense. The khaleasmerns live in a range of mountains that are known, in my world, as Wind Mountains. Like the name says, they are surrounded by extremely strong wind currents that make it hard for any flying creature to pass through. This dragon species, though, had some of their caudal vertebrae spines modified into a primitive arm-like structures. The secondary wings help them steer and keep a more stable flight amongst those winds, and also, by rotating the wing arm backwards and making the membrane face the wind, like a sail, these dragons can brake in midflight or even hover backwards.
The new colourful patterns on Dharivall's secondary wings are another characteristic of the species. All the males have that wing membrane covered with colourful markings that vary from dragon to dragon, like a fingerprint. They use the bright colours to attract females and to express irritation. In Dharivall's case it's... just to express irritation and to kill the hands of anybody who tries to draw them ^^'.
And lastly, as the sheet says, Dharivall's body is now covered in fur, even the wing membranes. I thought this would be suitable given the cold environment the khaleasmerns live at plus the fact that they are mammalians, besides, fluffy Dharivall is fluffy XD. I just wish I could have a plushie of him.
Well, this is all... I've planned far more characteristics and details about the species and I'm even willing to draw some info sheets for them once everything is settled up. I also want to work on at least another sheet for Dharivall since he is quite a complex character, requiring a reference for his powers, curse markings and maybe even more details about the secondary wings' movements... it'll be a lot of work, but seeing this guy becoming more and more realistic will be worth all the trouble XD.
Also, the girl silhouette right in front of Dharivall is Ellayas again, hehe.
